The purpose of this fundraiser for Giving Tuesday is to provide the residents of our transitional house with much needed tutoring. The main subjects that our residents need tutors for is literacy and GED/High School Diploma Preparation.
What We Do: STSG's Transitional House is for justice involved men who have recently been released from prison in need of support and guidance throughout their transition back into the community. Some residents come arrive to the house without their GED, or high school diploma, and some arrive without the ability to read or write. Tutoring on these subjects would be extremely useful for these residents, because without the ability to read or without graduating high school - it can be extremely difficult to live independently. We aim to give the residents of the transitional house the tools they need to be able to live a successful, independent life.
Mission: Our vision is to be a voice of the community that listens, informs, supports and empowers families and friends of the incarcerated and returning citizens. We want to offer our residents at our transitional housing 360 degree care, that goes past providing housing, to help their reentry to society go as smooth as possible. Our work will reduce recidivism and crime by helping these folks become productive members of society and their families.
