The BIRTH CLASS is a 4 week, 12-hour course. One registration and tuition includes two participants, the birthing parent as well as the non-birthing parent, or, a plus 1 (support partner of your choice). The ideal time to be in this class is in the 6 to 8 week window before your due date - during your third trimester. Birth Roots’ classes are designed to help participants find a community of other parents in the same phase of life, with similar due dates, sharing third trimester concerns, questions, and considerations.
This class helps participants…
- Increase confidence, calm and clarity as you gain a deeper understanding of the wisdom of the birthing body.
- Lean into the process and transformation of labor and birth in this dynamic approach to childbirth & postpartum education grounded in the Birthing From Within mindset.
- Learn individualized pain coping approaches that fit your personality and establish common language for communicating your needs to your birth team
This introspection-based, experiential learning course, with a community building emphasis, offers participants frequent opportunities to process the information they are hearing to see if or how it applies to them, because truly one-size-DOESN'T- fit-all. The Birthing From Within curriculum is designed to prevent birth trauma regardless of how any particular birth may unfold.
Birth Roots classes have a unique course content and material delivery that is not the traditional lecture-style. In this upbeat, off-the-beaten-path, nonlinear and creative childbirth course, anticipate frequent invitations for self-reflection/expression and prompts to turn to the person you come to class with to explore your perspective and preferences where there isn’t necessarily an objective, “right” answer.
Participants that get the most out of a this course have a willingness to look within, as well as participate in prompted partner communication (or at least welcome these unknows). This is not a passive class. Participants should be invested in the quality of the whole group’s experience.
DID YOU KNOW… One of the Birth Roots co-founders had two home births with local homebirth midwives and one of the co-founders had two hospital births via cesarean, and they merge the duality of their lived experience to deliver programs that can hold the pluralism of our reproductive lives, collectively and individually. Birth Roots classes and facilitators invest time and energy and effort into representing all options, all choices, all possibilities, all outcomes, all realities, with clarity, compassion and calm, and without bias, agenda, or preference.
To allow enough time and space for active learning, our core classes are limited to just 7 or 8 couples, so they fill very quickly. It is wise to register as soon as you decide you are interested, typically 3 months ahead of the desired class month is adequate time. (Example: EDD is mid-December, either October or November will be the best session to enroll in, so July or August is the time to enroll) In other words, to ensure you are able to get a spot in the session that is the best fit for you, enroll in your BIRTH & BUDS classes by week 20 of pregnancy.
You can receive a $40 discount for this class by taking it as a part of our Bridge Package bundle. Beginning in 2022, this class will primarily be held in person and require masks and proof of vaccination. If you prefer or require a virtual class, please register for the Waitlist option and indicate your need for an online class when prompted.
If the 12 hour (4 week) session will not work in your circumstance, we also offer a 6 hour Infusion, or Intensive version of our BIRTH CLASS designed for families who live far from Birth Roots or have unusually complicated schedules making it difficult or impossible to participate over the course of 4 weeks. It is also taken by [not-first-time] parents as a review in preparation for subsequent births. This class meets on a Friday evening and Saturday morning. This condensed 6 hour version moves quickly and is less detailed than the 12 hour version. Typically offered every other month.
