Intro to Modern Quilting, April and May 2023

Tuesdays: April 18, 25 + May 2, 9, 16 | 6–9pm

Interested in quilting but can’t sew a straight line? Not to worry… this is the class for you! Modern (or “improvisational”) quilting puts emphasis on the process. We will not spend our time fussing over perfect corners, rather we will get lost in the joy of making itself. Learn the basics and more as we spend our classes exploring the four essential parts of a machine-made quilt. The first three weeks will cover setting up a sewing machine for quilting, modern approaches to fabric piecing, and how to baste before quilting. We will spend the ladder half learning a variety of quilting methods and binding techniques. You will leave this class with a sample binder full of mini quilts and the knowledge to apply quilting wherever you see fit. There is only one rule in modern quilting, and it’s that there are NO RULES!

Prior experience with a sewing machine is preferred but certainly not required. Praxis has machines to use but we encourage students to bring their own if possible.
