Most of my paintings are as realistic as I can make them, but those paintings can take weeks to finish. So, it’s really enjoyable to go off the beaten path and do a quick painting with my palette knife. Color mixtures stay pure, the texture is beautiful and I can usually finish a painting in a few hours or for a larger one, a couple of days. I’ve found that some subjects work better with a palette knife than a brush. You can get as much detail as you’d like or just stress color and a semi abstract design. It’s loose and fun, and as a bonus there are no (or few) brushes to clean and minimal use of solvents and mediums.
I’ll talk a little about technique and composition, do a short demo, and the rest of the time will be spent helping you. The first painting will be from a photo that I bring just to make sure you start off simply, and then choose whatever you’d like.
