Workshop Format: 03/21/24
If you would like to join us this week, please pay the family enrollment fee if you have not already (due one time per semester per family) and then select how many students will be attending for this week. Rate is per student. Fees go towards the cost of the lessons, supplies used during class and for take home projects as well as overhead. This breaks down to just $9 an hour for you to have some me time while your amazing child has the opportunity to learn so many things!
In the Kitchen: Homesteading Class: Students will bring back their ginger bug starter and we will make a homemade soda from that starter. (If your student did not attend the previous week, we will make a ginger bug starter available for them.)
Gardening: We will discuss weed and pest control. What is a true "weed" versus weeds that are beneficial to our bodies? We will make a natural bug deterrent and talk about what plants are good for the garden to keep certain pests from demolishing your harvest.
Herbs and Edible Flowers: Holy Basil - oral tincture
Boosts immunity, decrease blood sugar levels, reduce inflammation, promote wound healing, improves respiratory disorders, antibacterial and antiviral properties, protection from infection, protects the liver, treat acne, promotes dental health, promotes eye health, protects against radiation.
Foraging and Survival Skills: How to find, collect, purify, filter and distill water from multiple sources.
Team Building/Science/Art (on rotation):
- Yellow: Art: Bug Hotel. Build a bug hotel using a shoe box and fill with things found in nature to build a lovely home for our bug friends.
- Green: To be posted.
- Blue: Team Building: Outdoor games. The students will engage in an encouraging, team building game of Gaga Ball, one of the favorite games of past Homegrown students!
