Are you a textile lover and creator Interested to find out what digital illustration and design tools can add to your toolbox?
Heard of Photoshop, but never got to try it for yourself?
Join our online introductory class and get to know the amazing world of Photoshop from a hands-on experience. During our five lessons we will explore the basic principles of illustration and image manipulation in Photoshop. We will touch on image editing (remember the photo you did of your work, but it just didn’t come out right?), drawing and painting tools, creating a collage, designing a repeating pattern and creating and managing your digital archive. At the end of the class you will have at least 3 files containing a drawing, a collage and a pattern that you created that you can print at home or keep developing on your own and a better idea of what photos you have, where they are and how to manage them.
The Introductory Class will give you a basic set of tools, an overview of the technical principles behind Photoshop and an idea of how it feels to use advanced digital tools for creative ends. Once this idea is in place you will be able to continue the exploration on your own.
The Adobe digital design tools are now more accessible than ever and present the creative person with a huge variety of ways to produce and manipulate images. Digital and manual creativity do not contradict each other, rather they are complementary approaches. Many textile artists and designers combine manual and digital work in their practice. Digital tools allow us to invent new and unexpected visual languages as well as to produce precise sketches, variations and simulations of our textile ideas and products and just to have fun.
What you need:
1. Yourself. You do not need previous experience with Adobe Photoshop, but you do need basic computer literacy. It means: you need to know how to operate your computer and manage your files and folders (know their location and storage). Make sure you know what are the basic folders such as Desktop, Downloads, My Documents; you can create new folders and move files from one folder to another; you are familiar with functions like save, copy, paste and download; you know how to save files sent as email attachments to a folder of your choice; you know how to open Google Drive links and download files from there.
2. A computer with an Adobe Photoshop subscription and a good Internet connection.
Please notice: Adobe moved to a subscription system in 2011. If you have installed Photoshop from before that time - it is not suitable for this class. Photoshop 2023 is an entirely different animal, you need the subscription if you wish to participate.
3. Zoom application. Prior to the beginning of the lesson we will send you a link to join via Zoom. Please make sure you know how to use it.
