Beginners welcome! Learn fundamentals in ballet, jazz, lyrical/contemporary, burlesque and hip hop.
Week 1 - Ballet - students will learn proper form, posture and lines. Ballet students will learn the 5 positions and incorporate it with barre work to include: plies, tendus, degages. Students will also learn basic ballet choreography.
Week 2 - Jazz - After a quick stretch and a brief jazz technique demo, students will learn beginner jazz steps including various walks and runs. Students will learn chasses and turns such as chaine and possibly pique. Students will learn to incorporate appropriate arm movements and do a short bit of choreography at the end.
Week 3 - Lyrical - the child of ballet and jazz. Students will combine what they learn in weeks 1 and 2. Students will learn to focus on graceful and slow movements while mastering turns and basic jumps.
Week 4 - Burlesque - Students will learn the rich history of burlesque through various movements. This class is mostly choreography as students will incorporate what they have learned in previous classes set to burlesque music. Seated chair work may be involved.
Week 5 - Hip Hop - And it's all brand new! Hip Hop is its own genre and rarely mimics any other style. Also a choreography heavy vs. technique class, students will learn the basics and fun style of hip hop set to contemporary hip hop music.
Diva Dance School is an adult dance school founded in 2019. Diva Dance has classes, workshops and performance teams in all styles of dance including: ballet, jazz, lyrical, tap, hip hop, contemporary, pointe and burlesque.
Michele Mandella
The Founder of the Diva Program and current owner of the studio with her daughter Emma, Michele started dancing at the age of 7. She has been trained in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, contemporary and burlesque. Michele has taught every style of dance to every age group. Besides teaching, creating choreography and managing the studio, Michele still performs in the annual show. She resides in Brookfield.
Emma Wendt
Co-owner of the studio with Michele, Emma has been dancing since the age of 2 and has been trained locally in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, contemporary and burlesque. She is an award-winning soloist and has placed several times at competitions. Emma is the featured choreographer for Diva Dance School and oversees the management of all of our classes and workshops. She has a master's degree in counseling and works as a substance use counselor.
