Investigating Invertebrates - With Merav Vonshak

Join Merav Vonshak, PhD., for a short hike (about two miles) and stop frequently to view insects and arachnids in their natural environment. At the end of the summer there are many great insects to view, such as native bees and butterflies, and the brilliant oak galls. Participants will also look for spiders, and might even see a male tarantula on his way to find a mate. No experience necessary. You don’t even need to like insects. But you will, by the end of the hike! Merav teaches natural history at San Jose State University and has organized BioBlitzes with Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful, Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority, and other environmental organization. She also volunteers in habitat restoration and environmental advocacy and loves teaching outdoors and exposing people to their local nature.

How to Fundraise During Your Trip: You can help raise money for SFBBO while enjoying your CFC event. Consider creating a fundraiser on your Facebook page and asking people to donate a certain amount to SFBBO for each bird species you see during your CFC trip (like asking people to donate per mile you walk for cancer research). We can also create a page for you on our website where you can share about your upcoming walk and ask people support SFBBO in honor of you.
