Developing the Kind and Connected Heart: Taking Back Our Projections
Wednesday, October 14, 2020
Open Practice 7:00-7:30 / Dharma Talk 7:35-8:30
Suggested donation: $7-25*
In this talk, Western psychology will support the development of our Buddhist Brahmavihara practice. As part of our explorations of these four Divine Abodes (loving kindness, compassion, appreciative joy and equanimity) we will explore how we project our unconscious emotions and beliefs onto other people, obstructing clear seeing and limiting our heart’s capacity to care and connect. When we turn our projections back to ourselves, explore all the recesses of our heart/mind with loving care, and own our full humanity, we develop humility and deeper compassion. This eases our sense of separation is especially helpful during this time of national division and conflict.
Practice together remotely with other sangha members in a relaxed online atmosphere (7:00) and enjoy a dharma talk (7:35).
*Our teachers have historically received 60% of the dana given for dharma talks, but since the pandemic the dana given on dharma talk nights has dropped, so IPV has had to provide teachers with a minimum guaranteed amount. We still operate entirely on the sangha's acts of generosity. If you have the means, please consider a donation tonight. A donation could help us meet the minimum payment for the teacher and provide some support to the ongoing operations of the sangha as well.
You can give online or send checks to InsightPV, 116 Pleasant Street, Suite 242, Easthampton, MA 01027. FYI: we check for mail once per week.
*As always, this donation is completely voluntary and is a personal decision. Please know that accessibility is very important to us; everyone is welcome at all of our events regardless of ability to donate.
