The pricing for this course is based on a sliding scale. Although the payment box is preset to $160, participants are not bound to this amount and have the option of paying between $40 and $160, or not at all, based on their own financial situation.
It is important to the organizers of this curriculum that EVERYONE who desires to take this course should be able to do so without hindrance. Consequently, no one will be denied admission due to an inability to pay. At the invitation of the Presbyterian Mission Agency, Stony Point Center (SPC) and Johnson C Smith Theological Seminary (JCSTS) have partnered to develop the Matthew 25 Curriculum. This curriculum offers both on-line and in-person learning opportunities for Presbyterians who desire to develop skills and build capacity to nurture vital congregations, dismantle structural racism, and work to end systemic poverty. This is a competency-based course. Competency-based education is personalized learning that focuses on the critical skills or competencies needed for success in a particular field. In doing so, competency-based education provides standards for measuring a student's new or improved capabilities.
As stated earlier, at the end of this course, you will better understand the principles of Civil Initiative. On a more elemental level, this course will help students become more competent in (1) practicing theological reflection; (2) embodying theology through ethical action; (3) collaborating with individuals and organizations to build capacity for long-term systemic change. It is expected that at the end of this course, students will hold themselves accountable for their own ongoing spiritual, intellectual, and behavioral development. Like many competency-based courses, this course does not issue grades.
