I recently celebrated my 20th anniversary being part of the CEID community as a speech and language pathologist. This specialized school for young children with hearing loss and other special needs has captured my heart all of these years! The families of the children are awe inspiring, and the dedication of the staff is insurmountable.
When other schools completely shut down in March 2020, our small but mighty school jumped into action creating a plan for distance learning and tele-therapy. At that time, I knew nothing about how tele-therapy worked! So my colleague who I was mentoring and I immediately took webinars and soaked up the knowledge of experienced clinicians who had been doing tele-therapy. We hung up green screens in our home offices, researched engaging virtual backgrounds for our young students, investigated creative digital activities that would target our young students' goals; learned all about the world of Zoom, and got to work! Our team did not skip a beat! The world seemed like it had shut down, but our staff maintained a connection with our families from day 1 of the shut down! Therapy went on despite it being in a mode that was totally unfamiliar to us! I am grateful for the families' patience while I learned how to share several windows at once on my computer!!
Our non profit school cannot exist without the generous support of people in the community! Each year, for the last 20 years (!), I have reached out to ask for your support in keeping our amazing school alive! With many charities, you have no idea where your money goes. When you donate to CEID, every penny goes to providing children and adults with much needed services such as speech/language/auditory therapy; occupational therapy, educational programs, as well as audiology services to name a few. Our campus also has a preschool for typically developing children. It truly is a unique and special place where children and families soar. Much gratitude for your help!
