The Bike Works is a community-supported nonprofit that promotes creative and active lifestyles, self reliance and sustainability in southwest New Mexico.
We operate a community workshop where we use the bicycle as the medium for hands-on education. Our programs include the Do-It-Yourself Tool Stations, The Tool Library, Repair & Maintenance Workshops, The Earn-A-Bike Program, The Mobile Bike Shop Program, The ReCycled Bike Art Program, and Community Rides. We encourage the recycling of bicycles to keep them out of the landfills and on the roads. We also focus on Workforce Development by teaching hard skills such as technical training and soft skills such as communication and working together to visitors of the shop. As one of our avenues to bring in funds for supplies and operating expenses, we offer Reconditioned Bicycles for sale. You dream it, we can build it!
We are excited to announce our soon-to-be fully operational downtown location at The Dragon @ 914 N. Pope St. in Silver City. No more climbing the biggest hill in town to get to our shop! We are directly across the street from the future Food Coop location. We currently have limited hours, but will soon be opening full time as we complete some finishing touches to the interior.
sed from GiveGrandly this year will support our Earn-A-Bike Program where kids work their way to bike ownership and to reboot our Weekend Bike Ride Program. We're looking for volunteers to help with these rides. Thanks for your support!
