Located in the historic 1881 Ailman House, the Silver City Museum creates opportunities for residents and visitors to explore, understand, and celebrate the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Southwestern New Mexico by collecting, preserving, researching and interpreting the region's unique history and peoples.
We bring local history to life through exhibitions, programs, publications, and community events for all ages.
Our mission has not only survived but thrived during the pandemic. Our shrinking yet creative and driven staff pivoted our service model to be entirely digital, and virtual program and exhibit attendance attendance has broken records.
Unfortunately, our bottom line has not weathered 2020 as vibrantly as our mission. Despite generous support from the public and the Town of Silver, gaps were left by the lack of walk-in donations, store sales, program tips, and of course we could not have our annual fundraisers Victorian Christmas and Ice Cream Social.
The museum will continue to play a vital role in the economic vitality, educational opportunities, and strong community identity of Silver City and the surrounding areas.
We are asking you to play a vital role in supporting the museum. All proceeds from Give Grandly will support our grand reopening. We are committed to opening as safely as possible. We also intend not only to repair and update for our big day, but show our returning public exciting new exhibits and new projects!
So to make our grand reopening to be as grand as possible, please give as grandly as you can. When the doors open, we will make you proud you contributed!
