Running a Marathon!

Supporting: RUN FOR LATINOS 2022 for Latinos Progresando

Campaign has ended.

Hi All!

I've made the decision to run the 2022 Chicago Marathon next year and I am running on behalf and in support of Latinos Progresando. I'm running for Latinos Progresando because I believe in the work that they do and the services that they provide for Latino, particularly Mexican (American), people. They provide legal services, community support, and spaces for artistic expression that any minoritized or overlooked community in America needs. Your support for me and my journey will ultimately provide support for a wonderful organization supporting wonderful causes

I am also running because growing up my family never owned a car and getting around on foot became a source of significant shame for me. I would hide my face at bus stops, or put my head down as I walked home with a bag full of groceries in my hand. Traveling on foot became associated with the sting of being from a poor community of color. Within the last year, I've found tremendous freedom in running. Not only does it provide a counterweight to all the sitting down I do to read (Ph.D. life!), but it is also a reminder of where I am from, a proud reminder.

Of course, I have a financial goal to meet and I need your help. Your money will help me reach my goal and/or provide support to a wonderful organization like Latinos Progresando. Whatever your reason, please consider funding this journey of mine while knowing that your money is supporting a great cause.

Latinos Progresando is a Chicago-based nonprofit organization specializing in the issues of immigration legal services, community health, education, and peace. As an extension of this work, LP leads the Marshall Square Resource Network, a 45-partner collaborative on Chicago’s southwest side that builds the capacity of member agencies and advances integrated solutions.

LP’s mission is to deliver high quality information and resources for people to build secure, healthy and productive lives.  The organization was built from the ground up, and even after 20 years, LP’s vision continues to be shaped and led by people in our community.
