Finding quality daycare for a disabled person is difficult. You want them not just to be cared for, but to thrive. When Keith and Kevin aged out of home-daycare arrangements, we needed to find a center that could give Jeffy the love and nurturing he needs and deserves. At one facility we visited, the owner said to our faces “the law says we have to take him, but we don’t have to do anything special for him.” We left that facility immediately, but we didn’t leave our search.

Until we found the Achievement Center of Texas. We’ve been there now for going on twenty years. Jeffy’s been a student, and I’ve long served on its Board of Trustees. It is a special, loving, nurturing day habilitation center for people with a broad spectrum of disabilities. It is Jeffy’s frequent daytime home when Janet and I are at work. It is a part of our family.

Non-profits always struggle for money. ACT annually sponsors an ACTion Run/Walk to raise funds to maintain the opportunities it provides to its students. I formed TeamJeff to help its mission. I am its legs; its members are its heart and soul. I’m asking you to become a member of TeamJeff to help ACT not only survive, but thrive.

The past 20 months have been exceedingly difficult for ACT. Its leaders put it this way:

It has been a full year now that we have been back in ACTion at the Achievement Center. In between labor shortages, pandemic logistics and the overwhelming need to keep our clients and their families safe, we have been putting up a hard fight. However, that fight is far from over. Reduced capacity along with the additional safety precautions is taking its toll on our small non profit.

TeamJeff has raised over $120,000 since 2012. This year, because of the pandemic, ACT’s needs are greater than ever. We can continue to meet these challenges with your help. No donation is too small. Please consider becoming a member of TeamJeff and the greater ACT family.

Walk your neighborhood, local park or even on your treadmill to support the students of ACT.
