You might not know that thirty years ago I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Honduras as an HIV/AIDS prevention educator.  That was where I became a teacher!  I lived there for almost 6 years back in the 90's.  When I came home, I served another year as an Americorps Vista Volunteer and I worked with migrant farmworkers here in Colorado helping women in that community who were victims of domestic violence. Volunteering has been a big part of my life.

Thirty years later, here I am, a retired DPS teacher and a private tutor.  And the itch to volunteer has returned!

A friend of mine has volunteered with Global Volunteers many times.  They do good work all around the world.  I have just signed up to go with them to Cuba in June.  I'll be in Havana for a week and a small, rural town for a second week.   Travel to Cuba is not always easy,  but Global Volunteers has done this many times in Cuba and it's highly organized and effective.  Since I'm bilingual, my Spanish skills will be in high demand on this trip.  I'll be volunteering in various capacities:  in schools, community gardens, seamstress shops, and some local clean up projects.  I'll probably be in schools most of the time helping English students with their learning.

I am fundraising to help cover the expenses of my lodging, food, and in-country travel.  I will cover my own airfare from Denver to Cuba and back.  I would love it if you could help me reach my fundraising goal, to offset the costs of this volunteer adventure.
