We look at Literacy as a Social Justice issue. Everyone deserves the right to Literacy skills! And for every dollar invested in Adult Education, a community receives approximately $60 back in increased income, property taxes, and savings on welfare and legal system expenses.
Your donations will be used for free books to school children, operational costs, testing and tutoring supplies and professional development training for staff and volunteers.
New Mexico is plagued by Literacy skill deficiencies, and these deficiencies have serious social and economic consequences. Adults who lack in Basic Literacy skills are 2x more likely to be unemployed. 3x more likely to be in poverty, 4x more likely to be in poor health, and a staggering 8x more likely to be incarcerated.
Now is the time to rebuild our community to be healthier, stronger and more robust! We are striving to connect our community with our resources which are available to get free one-to-one or small group tutoring, High School Equivalency Prep and Testing, Citizenship Exam Prep and Testing, Adult and Elementary Basic Literacy tutoring and English Language support.
Our Let's Read book donation project continues actively. During this school year, we have given 20,605 new, age- appropriate books to Grant County elementary school children. Since Let's Read began, the project has donated over 330,000 books to Grant County elementary school children.
