Established in 1985, Silver City MainStreet is an accredited New Mexico MainStreet program committed to working with our community to foster economic development in our historic downtown. We do this through collaboration and promotion of downtown events, improvements to and preservation of our historic district, and the development of new and creative uses for downtown buildings. In 2011, we won the Great American Main Street Award given to only 3 communities each year.
Some of our many successful projects include Street Lights, Silver City Gateway Arch, Big Ditch Park development, the Main Street Plaza, numerous beautification projects, the restoration of the historic Silco Theater and Stories From Our Streets: Discover the Town That Was Built to Last, a downtown walking tour highlights the colorful history of our downtown.
Silver City MainStreet provides support for our small local businesses, offering technical assistance and support through our Small Businesses Assistance Program. So far we have funded 42 projects to help businesses operate along with promotions such as Love Local, the Urban Challenge Fun Run and the Lighted Christmas Parade. Other support includes the Main Street Gift Certificate Program and the Downtown Guide and Map. Engaging programming includes the Make-and-Take free art activities at the Maker's Market and the Downtown Passport program. New this year will be children's films offered once at week through the summer at the Silco Theater.
Our mission is: To encourage a vibrant, historic downtown Silver City that is recognized as the heart of our diverse community.
We are proud of our downtown historic district, and encourage you to stroll about the eclectic businesses and interesting architecture.
Please consider a donation to help us continue with programs and projects that make our community more vibrant and sustainable.
