The mission of the Southwest Regional Museum of Art and Art Center is to:
*Preserve and exhibit a permanent
collection of art from the past.
*Present contemporary curated
exhibitions by living artists.
*Host an annual 4-state exhibition
juried by out-of-region jurors of note.
*Provide educational opportunities to all ages and ethnicities through the visual arts thereby increasing creativity in all endeavors.
To do this our goals are:
*To establish a Fine Art Museum
building of approximately 7000 sq. feet in Silver City with several exhibition
spaces, classroom space, storage space,
office space and preparation space.
*To have in-museum education in art appreciation and art
making.
*To develop outreach visual arts classes
in the southwestern quadrant of New Mexico, currently an underserved area,
through a mobile classroom and videos on our website.
*To increase the reputation of
Silver City as an “Art Town” bringing more tourists, creating an economic
benefit to the whole town, and providing an additional cultural reason for
people to move here.
