Campaign has ended.

The Upper Gila Watershed Alliance

celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2021!

With your support, we'll protect

the Gila for the next 25 years!

We do a combination of advocacy, education, and restoration work.

Here are a few examples of our work.

~ Protecting the Gila River from an ecologically harmful and really expensive diversion. After more than 15 years of working to prevent a diversion, we finally won!

~ Working with a dedicated coalition, we're fighting the Air Force's proposal for loud and destructive military trainings over the Gila National Forest, including the wilderness areas.

~ Leading a coalition of groups to engage in the Gila National Forest's plan revision process, which is important because the management plan guides decisions and projects for the next 15 years

~ Empowering local youth to tackle the challenges of climate change by providing an immersive ecological literacy education

~ Hosting an eco-camp for high school students in summer 2022 and a climathon for elementary students and teachers in fall 2022

~ Hosting the Children's Water Festival at the Gila River for 5th graders from Cobre, Silver City, and Lordsburg School Districts

~ Since 2016, removing invasive tamarisk (salt cedar) trees from the Gila River in the Gila Wilderness Area and downstream of the Gila River Bird Area

~ Fencing a spring in the Gila National Forest from livestock damage
