WILL's mission, "We enrich life through learning in community." sums up the essence of WILL's purpose for being. It guides everything we do and is the foundation for communications about WILL courses and other activities. We believe it makes people want to learn more about WILL.
WILL is an intentional community fostering friendships, challenging the mind, body and spirit, and exploring creativity and self-expression. We offer experiences in lifelong learning and opportunities for volunteering that optimize life’s potential, satisfy personal curiosities, and enrich members' lives. Since 2005, WILL has drawn together a diverse group of people living in southwestern New Mexico. Most, but certainly not all, have lived in lots of different places before landing in New Mexico. For many members, their families live far away. So, WILL serves a vital social purpose and also provides forums for continuing to engage their brains and curiosity.
WILL offers courses led by volunteer facilitators, WILL members and others from the local community and across the country, who are rewarded by their love of the topics they're presenting. The social events we hold bring us together and celebrate members' contributions. Dues are deliberately kept low. Scores of people donate their time and talents to sustain WILL since we have only one part-time, paid, very essential staff person. Through volunteering, our members find connection, stimulation, friendship, and community. WILL enjoys an essential partnership with Western New Mexico University in Silver City, NM. WILL occupies a small house on the edge of campus which we use for our office, meetings and some courses. WILL could scarcely exist without WNMU's generous assistance.
WILL also offers Lunch and Learn programs on topics that are of interest to Grant County citizens. These Lunch and Learn sessions are free and open to all, now in partnership with Silver City Museum!
