The Joyce Ivy Foundation was established to assist young women in their pursuit of higher education opportunities. As a non-profit organization, the Joyce Ivy Foundation is dedicated to the academic advancement of young women in the Midwest. The Summer Scholars program provides scholarships for talented female high school students to attend summer academic programs at partner colleges and universities. Summer Scholars receive full and partial scholarship grants to apply to summer program tuition, room and board, and travel expenses. (via Joyceivyfoundation.org)

Last summer I took this wonderful opportunity and attended the Washington University High School Summer Scholars program in St. Louis, Missouri. I can?t begin to tell you what an amazing experience it was- nothing short of life-changing. I was there for five weeks staying in their dormitories and taking two classes, Bioethics and Problem-Based Learning in Biology, for which I got college credit for. The classes were enlightening and challenging, and really helped me to solidify my interest in that field, and I plan to major in Biomedical Engineering. Not only that but I was able to get a taste of college life and made lifelong friends at the same time! I made friends with people from all over the world who have the same passion for learning as I do. This program normally costs around $8,000, which would not be financially possible for me. However because of the Joyce Ivy Foundation, I attended completely free. They even paid for my flight costs to get to St. Louis. This was such an enormous blessing that I decided to become a fellow and Ambassador of the foundation so I could tell other girls my age about this amazing opportunity!

The Joyce Ivy Foundation sponsors many girls each year but one scholarship is always funded completely by money raised by former scholars. This is the Alumnae Scholarship, and this pay-it-forward campaign for it is near and dear to my heart as I was honored to receive this scholarship last summer. Please consider donating(even the smallest bit helps!) or share with your friends! And if you are a young woman interested in applying, I highly encourage it and would love to answer any questions you may have.

Summer Scholars alumnae pay it forward in many different ways, including participating in an annual fundraiser that supports a scholarship for a current Summer Scholar.
