My name is Matt Holihan and I was born and raised in the shadow of the Northern Sierras. I currently live in Reno, NV and I spend my time running in the mountains, cycling through the desert and alpine high country, snowboarding in Tahoe, and spending time with the people I love. I enjoy exploring and adventuring in the surrounding territory. This is a passion and lifestyle I will forever cherish.
After graduating from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2009 I began to run competitively. I consistently finish in the top ten in many different race lengths, including my first 50K Ultra last August. I have since grown an interest in competing longer distances, and have even begun my journey as a triathlete while competing in my first Olympic distance at the Lake Tahoe Triathlon last summer.
There are a few reasons I have decided to run for pediatric cancer research this season. One is to be able to tell the story of how resilient, strong and loving the Caldwell family has been since losing their precious daughter Olivia to cancer. I have known Brett and Katie since childhood. Another is cancer sucks; no matter the form. It is something that affects most people, including myself, as I lost my mom in my early adult life to the disease. I'm not a father yet, but one day I'd like to be. And if/when that day comes, I hope Olivia's story and greater awareness of pediatric cancer will lead to a cure for this horrible disease.
