Running with Reason

by Cassidey Weems

In January, I will be competing in a running challenge by completing a 5K, 10K, half marathon, and marathon in 4 days, totaling 48.6 miles. I will be doing so as a part of the JAR of Hope team in hopes to raise awareness and funds for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a devastating genetic disorder mainly affecting boys, causing progressive muscle degeneration and early death. Slowly, the muscle will waste away forcing these children to succumb to their disease and turn towards a wheelchair for mobilization while their life expectancy decreases as time goes on. No child should be forced to give away their adolescence and that is why I have joined their team to help raise funds for future research. DMD is on the verge of a clinical trial due to recent positive results with a new treatment! However, the search for a cure demands substantial funding. JAR of Hope funds research and supports affected families, needing your help to make a cure a reality. Every day, every penny, every contribution matters.

JAR of Hope is running its 7th consecutive runDisney Marathon Weekend. We are running this event bc Jamesy and 11 other boys are going to be in a clinical trial at the University of Florida. Yes, this is going to be the first of its kind Stem Cell Clinical Trial to see if we can improve the quality of life. We want to make a HUEG IMPACT in this disease. No child has ever survived Duchenne. Its been 200 years and we need to change that! Thanks to everyone on this team this year we are going to do just that!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for joining this team and giving me the opportunity to help save my son's life and other people alike.

Warmest regards,

How would you like to support?
