2024 Walt Disney World Marathon for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD)

by Bridgette Bennett

When I turned 30, I registered for my first half-marathon. I picked this goal for myself because it felt REALLY hard. I couldn't even run for a five-minute interval. I completed my first half marathon at Walt Disney World nine months later.

Last year, I completed my second half-marathon (20 minutes faster!), and earlier this year, I had the pleasure of finishing 19.3 miles over three days of races with my Mom, Jennifer Harden, in honor of my late Aunt, Michelle Scoby.

During each of these endurance challenges, I've grown to love the Run Disney community, and I wanted to take on this next challenge not only for myself but for one of the amazing charities that Run Disney partners with.

I've seen Jar of Hope members year after year, participating and cheering on runners, all for the sake of raising money and bringing awareness for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD).

I'm committing to running 26.2 miles on January 7th, 2024, and I'm asking you to help me raise $3,400.00 (I'll be 34 years old!) on behalf of Jar of Hope and the 300,000 children suffering from this progressive and fatal disease.

Thank you for your support!

JAR of Hope is running its 7th consecutive runDisney Marathon Weekend. We are running this event bc Jamesy and 11 other boys are going to be in a clinical trial at the University of Florida. Yes, this is going to be the first of its kind Stem Cell Clinical Trial to see if we can improve the quality of life. We want to make a HUEG IMPACT in this disease. No child has ever survived Duchenne. Its been 200 years and we need to change that! Thanks to everyone on this team this year we are going to do just that!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for joining this team and giving me the opportunity to help save my son's life and other people alike.

Warmest regards,

How would you like to support?
