Running to Remember: Honoring Jacob June's Life Cut Short by Duchenne.

Dear friends and supporters,

I find myself on the brink of a journey that will push me to my limits, both physically and emotionally. In the vast desert, where time seems to stand still, I will be embarking on a grueling 171.4 mile ultra stage race, carrying with me the weight of a heartbreaking loss and the determination to keep the memory of Jacob June alive.

Jacob, my beloved friend, was taken from us far too soon by the merciless grip of Duchenne. This devastating disease stripped him of his strength, dreams, and future, leaving an indelible void in the lives of those who loved him. But as I lace up my running shoes and face the relentless desert expanse, I am reminded that this race is not just about my personal challenge it's about channeling Jacob's spirit and honoring his enduring legacy.

Duchanne robbed Jacob of so much, but it could never take away his vibrant soul, infectious laughter, and unwavering determination. Despite the adversities he faced, Jacob always embraced life with a fierce tenacity that inspired everyone around him. It is in his memory that I commit to pushing myself beyond my limits, mirroring his strength, and defying the limitations imposed by this unforgiving disease.

Each step I take, each blistered foot, each drop of sweat mingling with the desert dust, is a testament to the battles Jacob fought throughout his life. It is a bittersweet reminder that while he may no longer be physically present, his spirit remains an eternal flame within us all.

As the miles stretch out endlessly before me, I can't help but reflect on the significance of this endeavor. I am not merely running for personal glory or physical accomplishment; I am running to raise awareness about Duchenne and to keep Jacob's memory alive. Together, we can shine a light on this cruel disease and strive for a future where no family has to endure the pain and heartbreak that Jacob has felt.

JAR of Hope is taking on the G2G once again. This very well might be Jim's last dance. You are going to want to come on out and enjoy the last time Jim will ever do this race. Jim needs to spend more time at home with Jamesy. Jamesy is 14 now, and this will be Jim's 6 consecutive starts at this amazing event. Jamesy has lost the ability to walk, but we are not done fighting yet. Our intentions are to fund the clinical trial at the University of Florida to help understand more about this devastating disease.

Jim has said, "It's been a great ride running the G2G, but this was never about racing". This has and will always be about finding a cure for Jamesy and making his quality of life that much better than Duchenne allows. I can't thank everyone enough for all their support.

Let's bond together and make this the best event to say Farwell to Jim as this is his Last Dance in the desert.

JAR of Hope!
