Short Version:

I've been presented with the opportunity to travel with a surgical team through this amazing organization to perform 22-28 hip and knee replacements in Nigeria. My specific responsibility, as a physical therapist, will be to assist with their immediate post-op rehab.

These funds will allow the GEANCO foundation to bring surgeons, nurses, physical therapists, the entire surgical team and supplies to a country with limited access.

Thank you for your support, not only for me and my team, but for every life that will be affected by this team and this mission!

Long Version:

I have actually had a desire and a dream since graduate school to serve overseas, specifically in Africa.  I always imagined that when I finally did get to Africa, it would be for medical mission, since physical therapy is my profession and skill set and area of expertise.  God had other ideas, though, and he sent me to Kenya this past April on my first ever short term mission trip to be a part of community development through the local church. It was different but eye opening, and exactly what I needed.  I learned a lot of things through that trip. One of them is that it reaffirmed my desire to step outside of my bubble, take who God as made me, and the gifts and skills he has given me, and use it to make an impact on individual lives both near and far. As our time in Kenya was ending this spring I was trying to process everything I had seen and experienced, and I heard God tell me, "this is only the beginning." I still don't have a clear picture of what that means or what the next part of the story looks like for me. I did know that it did not mean to come home and just start researching frantically for my next opportunity to go somewhere. I was supposed to be patient and wait for an opportunity to present itself, and be ready to say "yes." Turns out I didn't have to wait long...

Several weeks ago this opportunity literally fell into my lap through a friend and colleague.  An opportunity to travel to Nigeria with a surgical team to perform hip and knee replacement surgeries, where I could use my professional skills to assist with their post-op rehab. I'm so excited to be able to serve in this way. It is something I have dreamed of doing for years and it is finally coming to fruition. I've researched the foundation and its mission in Nigeria and I'm excited to be a part of it.

These funds will allow the GEANCO foundation to bring surgeons, nurses, physical therapists, the entire surgical team and supplies to a country with limited access.

Thank you for your support, not only for me and my team, but for every life that will be affected by this team and this mission!

About

From November 10 - 19, the GEANCO Foundation (www.geanco.org) will undertake a special medical mission to Nigeria.  For the fifth time, GEANCO's surgical team will perform hip and knee replacements on poor patients there, where the need is almost unimaginable.

Each of our mission team members is working hard to raise money to help defray travel expenses and the cost of our supplies and equipment.  Your donation will help us impact so many lives, please give generously!

Thank you in advance for your support!
