Supporting: Create a Fundraiser! for Fight Against Domestic Violence

Campaign has ended.

I am raising money to support a cause that I care about deeply and have personally affected by.

1 in 3 women and 1 in 7 men will experience domestic violence at the hands of an intimate partner in their lifetime.

I want to increase awareness and financial resources for service providers who support victims/survivors.

DV takes on many forms and is not just physical, although most people think of physical violence. It is also controlling behaviour, financially , emotional manipulation, sexual abuse and isolation from others.

A bit about my survivor story.

I grew up in what appeared to be a normal, middle class, blended family from the outside. Behind closed door so it was anything but.

My mom was being emotionally and financially abused and I was being sexually abused from a young age.  40 of children who’s parents are in an abusive situation are Alsobrook being abused.

My mom didn’t know what was happening to me. I keep quiet until my mid 20’s after my mom ended her 22 year relationship with her abuser.

I was lucky. Once I spoke up, I was 100% supported by my close friends and family.

I went to the police and my abuser was found guilty of Historic Sexually Child Abuse in a court of law. He served no jail time, but that part is for another day.
