On September 1 2010, my life as well as my entire extended family’s life changed forever. My 3 year old cousin was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He was placed in the standard risk category and with that, the 80-90% survival block. Later that year, we received more unfortunate news. Logan had a very rare type of ALL called hipodiploid ALL. This form is in the very high risk block along with the 40-50% survival rate.
Logan fought courageously until the age of 9 years old. Every memory he experienced, he was sick for. He never questioned it, he never made an excuse, he just lived. On March 5, 2016, Logan was taken from this world way too soon. It left a hole in our family that can never be filled. But we try. We try to fill it with his love. We try to fill it with his bravery. We try to fill it by letting everyone know he’s still here with us, in our hearts and in our spirits.
On Saturday June 15, I will have a pediatric cancer patient shave my head in the shave a hero save a hero event. My goal is not to share the sadness of Logan’s story or the story of so many like him. My goal is to raise funds and awareness so that no more families have to go through this. My goal is for no more children to have to fight this fight. No more holes in families.
Our Shave a Hero// Save a Hero event is a family oriented, heartfelt afternoon aiming to raise as many funds as possible so that we at Infinite Love for Kids Fighting Cancer can help fulfill grants for desperately needed research specific to children's cancers, as well as help families whose children are in the thick of their fights.
In collaboration with the Middletown Twp. Fire Department, on Saturday June 15th from noon - 4:00pm we welcome all to join us for a fun-filled afternoon consisting of food, activities, raffles, prizes, lots of laughter and OF COURSE head shaving! Our shave event will be held at Community Firehouse Station #4 - 75 Appleton Avenue in Leonardo, NJ.
Shaving (or pony tail chopping : ) is open to anyone willing to go for the bald is beautiful look...in our eyes ANYONE willing to shave their head or help us in any other capacity is a true hero! But also, you DO NOT have to be a shavee in order to start your own fundraising page or to create your own team, so we hope that you'll consider starting a team with your entire family because we can use all of the help that we can get!
