Howdy!

Thanks for visiting my Trailmixer fundraising page!

I am working to raise $3000 this season, through this portal.  I have until the end of July to do it, so thank you for your support!

This is our 8th year of "Hiking for a Cause", and for this one we have chosen a real doozy.  Mt Shasta is one of the 12 California 14ers, at 14,180'.  But what makes this mountain a real challenge is just how steep the climb will be.  Over 7000' in elevation gain, in just over 7 miles! Also, we will be doing this climb on snow, crossing glaciers, a kind of mountaineering that I have not done since I was a teenager!

But what really makes this climb essential for me, and so very close to my heart, is that we will be raising money to increase the visibility of an organization called Brave Trails, and specifically creating a scholarship fund for LGBTQ+ youth of color, to attend their summer camps and workshops.  I highly encourage you to visit the website of Brave Trails here:  www.bravetrails.org

And particularly, watch this video, and listen to the youth themselves speak about how important Brave Trails is to their lives:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMBwM6i-2ic

If I could have imagined, when I was a 16 year old baby queer......when I was the youth leader helping to start Colorado's very first Gay and Lesbian youth group called Outright, all of us gay youth trying to survive a very hostile world.........well I could not have imagined that someday an organization like Brave Trails could exist, and actually provide a safe space for queer youth to gather, and learn, and celebrate!  It brings tears to my eyes now.

I am thrilled, and humbled, by the opportunity to help underprivileged youth of color, have access to such a great program!

Thank you for donating!

Hello from the Trailmixer Team!

OUT Hiking for Our Community (Trailmixer)* is an organization of hikers that promote climbing events every year to raise funds for LGBTQ+ organizations. In 2020 Trailmixer’s 3-Day Climbing Fundraiser will be from July 17-19 at Mount Shasta. We are super excited to journey up this volcanic Cascade beauty – get your hiking boots on. At an elevation of 14,179 feet (4321.8 m), it is the second-highest peak in the Cascades and the fifth highest in California.

This Summer’s climb is helping fund the Camp Brave Trails scholarship program for underserved LGBTQ+ kids from all over the US. Trailmixer believes in the importance of helping kids engage with other LGBTQ+ youth.

Throughout the year, Trailmixer's members and volunteers participate in leadership workshops and community events to help provide kids with tools and skills to grow up with the confidence that they can be whoever they want to be in our society. We are working on developing new nature programs and activities with other factions of the LGBTQ+ community. Our work will grow more with your help.

So will you do it? Will you support us?

In order to maximize your donation, each climber will cover his/her own costs for travel, lodging, food and gear for this event.

In the name of all the participants and partners of Trailmixer, we thank you.

Trailmixer Team.
