The start of 2020 has been difficult for everyone, including myself. I moved back to LA after a short year in San Diego and three years in San Francisco, completed my last semester of my Master's Program and started a new job all during the pandemic. I am especially fortunate because I have had the love and support of my family and friends throughout this whole process.
This experience really reminded me of how blessed I am to be surrounded with such love, compassion and empathy. It has also showed me how devastating this pandemic has been to others that do not have the same love, support and the resources to manage the stresses of daily life.
I have always been a big believer in giving back to my community and to those that are less fortunate. I also believe that nobody is defined by their ethnicity, socioeconomic status, religion or gender identity and that given the opportunity, education and support, that we all can become better versions of ourselves and become leaders that we desperately need in our community.
This year I am joining Trailmixer, a cause that is about creating awareness, building resources and providing support for individuals that have been marginalized in our LGBTQ+ community. As part of my graduation gift to my community, I will be climbing Mt. Shasta with a small group of hikers, climbers and most of all friends this July. We are uniting to raise funds to continue the necessary change needed in providing opportunity, building leaders, and empowering our community so that everyone is able to thrive and be the star they truly are!!!
Hello from the Trailmixer Team!
OUT Hiking for Our Community (Trailmixer)* is an organization of hikers that promote climbing events every year to raise funds for LGBTQ+ organizations. In 2020 Trailmixer’s 3-Day Climbing Fundraiser will be from July 17-19 at Mount Shasta. We are super excited to journey up this volcanic Cascade beauty – get your hiking boots on. At an elevation of 14,179 feet (4321.8 m), it is the second-highest peak in the Cascades and the fifth highest in California.
This Summer’s climb is helping fund the Camp Brave Trails scholarship program for underserved LGBTQ+ kids from all over the US. Trailmixer believes in the importance of helping kids engage with other LGBTQ+ youth.
Throughout the year, Trailmixer's members and volunteers participate in leadership workshops and community events to help provide kids with tools and skills to grow up with the confidence that they can be whoever they want to be in our society. We are working on developing new nature programs and activities with other factions of the LGBTQ+ community. Our work will grow more with your help.
So will you do it? Will you support us?
In order to maximize your donation, each climber will cover his/her own costs for travel, lodging, food and gear for this event.
In the name of all the participants and partners of Trailmixer, we thank you.
