FLOODING: Maps have changed!!! (Sorry, folks, we can’t control the weather.)
Welcome – Final Instructions - Please read because there are important changes
Thank you for preregistering for the 2022 25th Annual Tour de Stooges or for participating in a previous ride. Pre-registration continues through 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 6. If you have friends, colleagues, family or enemies who are planning to ride and want to pay the preregistration discounted fee, do it before the cutoff, otherwise the cost goes up $5 on ride day for onsite registration. If you ordered a t-shirt they will be available in the check-in area. A very limited number of extra shirts will be available for sale at that time at $16 each.
Weather
The ride goes on rain or shine. The two-day forecast for Saturday is Mainly sunny. High 71F. Winds N at 10 to 15 mph. We anticipate that the spirits of Larry, Curly, Moe, Shemp, Curly Joe, and TdS founder Roger Kramer will arrange for great weather as they have in the past.
Ride Day - Routes
This is the final pre-ride email with map links to follow Friday. Flooding and threats to other spots for flooding forced us to adjust the routes. Registered riders will receive an additional notice with maps. A few preliminary instructions:
1. Everyone must check-in to ride. If one person registered for several riders, only one person needs to check in and will be given the wristbands for the group. No need to sign waiver forms if you preregistered online, they were included with preregistration. There are separate lines for check-in and on-site registration/check-in. We accept cash, check, and credit/debit cards. Preregistered riders may use any line.
2. When you check in you will receive a wristband for each participant. These wristbands are your tickets for rest area service, SAG service (the phone number is printed on the wristband) and lunch. No wristband, no service or lunch.
3. There will be a monitored bike corral near the dining hall that is included with your fee. Enter the circle drive at the northwest entrance.
4. The ride has a rolling start, and we recommend that the long-distance riders plan to be on the road no later than 7:00 a.m. Please pace yourselves to be back by about 2:30 p.m., we will be open for check-in and registration at 6:00 a.m. We suggest the following latest start times; Century and Metric Century 7:00 a.m., 46-mile route 8:00 a.m., 30-mile route 9:00 a.m., 15-mile route 10:00 a.m.
5. Know someone who plans to register on site? Please plan on a few extra minutes while we enter your information into the Flipcause app we use to track registrations, releases funds, etc. Signing the registration on site also means that the conditions of the release are accepted. We are trying to make onsite registration as contact free and easy as is possible.
Food service at Ames Hall begins at 11:00 a.m. and ends promptly at 2:30 p.m. so please plan your ride time accordingly. Please enter at the southwest entrance to the hall where your wristband will be checked by a volunteer and you will receive a ticket to exchange for lunch. Sorry, no wristband-no lunch. There are no mask restrictions at Ames, masks are now voluntary on campus.
Lunch guests – we can now accommodate non-rider lunch guests. “Tickets” are available at check-in for $10 each. We ordering only enough lunches for registered riders with an estimate for day of ride registrants and guests, thus the need to know early. Lunch will be available in Ames Dining Hall on campus. Sodexho services is extending their regular lunch hours by 90 minutes, and they need time to prep for dinner service. Look for the signs as your route returns to campus.

The largest parking lots are near the intersection of Alton St. and Summerfield St. You may park in just about any McKendree lot that is not marked reserved for the McKendree University Trustee’s meeting, The Trustees’ lot is next to the Chapel on Alton St. While classes are not in session on Saturday, there are some students staying on campus for final exam week and commencement. So, some lots near residence halls may fill. There are over 2,500 parking spots on campus, thus there should be plenty of room.
Please follow parking restriction signs (i.e. reserved for Admissions, Sodexho, Campus Safety, Police, Facilities, Handicap). Faculty parking spaces are not restricted on weekends. Vehicle stickers are not needed on weekends. Most streets adjacent to the campus are designated no-parking and are enforced by the Lebanon PD.
Volunteers
The TdS is run completely by volunteers who give up a lot of their time for a good cause. We grow from a core group of about 20 dedicated volunteers to almost 200 volunteers on ride day to make sure the participants can enjoy a quality event. You can become a member of Gateway East Trails through our web site at www.gatewayeasttrails.org for just $5/yr. That will entitle you to a vote and be informed of the other activities and initiatives GET is involved with.
We did not do any paid advertising again this year. Our surveys show us that 90% of riders learn about us by word of mouth or have ridden in the past. So, if you know of riders interested in a great ride event, please tell them about Tour de Stooges. To date registrations are the highest we have ever had only one week out from the event. At this rate we could reach 800 riders again this year.
