We have volunteer opportunities available in August that will allow you to volunteer at Rutherford Creek safely during the COVID-19 pandemic. This volunteer opportunity will help you learn skills in environmental restoration, and is open to adults that want to get outside, have fun, and help!
No more than two volunteers will be allowed to sign up per shift. Once you arrive we will have a work station set up for you and we will be instructing and supervising you from a safe distance. The instructor will be wearing a mask and we ask that you wear a mask as well. You will need waders in the creek but we will provide those.
You can choose to volunteer on one or more of these dates. August 13th, 14th, 19th, 20th, 21st, or 22nd.

Hi! Tennessee Environmental Council has a no-contact volunteer opportunity available in June that will allow you to volunteer in Spring Hill at Grassy Branch Creek, a tributary to Rutherford Creek, safely during the COVID-19 pandemic. This volunteer event will help you learn skills in environmental restoration, and is open to boy scouts, students, working professionals, or ANYONE that wants to get outside, have fun, and help!
Through this volunteer activity, you will learn how to stabilize a creek bank. We will train you on how to drive anchors, run wire, and prepare to install green infrastructure that controls erosion.
There are volunteer time slots open Wednesday, June 10th through Friday, June 12th, and Tuesday, June 16th through Saturday, June 20th.

On Saturday, October 12th at 9 am, join the Tennessee Environmental Council in cleaning up Garrison Creek in Murfreesboro. We will be removing invasive vegetation and debris in preparation for future tree planting in November. We will also be sharing stories, insights, and lessons about watershed restoration.

Volunteers Needed for Zero Waste Party on Sept 14th in Nashville August 08, 2019
We're having a Recycle Right and Zero-Waste Party on Saturday, Sept 14th in Nashville and we need some volunteer help to pull it off. Here are some examples of what you might be doing:
- Recycle Right Table-- 2 volunteers
- Compost Table-- 1-2 volunteers
- Turn a T-shirt into a bag-- 1 volunteer
- Waste Monitor (make sure people are putting recyclables & compost in the proper bins)
The volunteer shift will be from 5-7:30 pm. The event will be located at:

Can you help table at Tomato Fest this Saturday, August 10th from 4-6:30 pm? You will need to be very knowledgeable about what can and cannot be recycled in Nashville's curbside recycling program and be able to answer questions about that. You will also need to be somewhat knowledgeable about at-home composting and the Tennessee Environmental Council in general. If you are comfortable with these things and would like to volunteer please email firstname.lastname@example.org. We can offer you a reusable cotton produce bag, bamboo toothbrush or bumper sticker for helping out. Thank you!
What: Volunteer with us to restore Lytle Creek! Learn how to use cedar revetments to control erosion, reduce flooding, and reforest Tennessee. This is a hands-on opportunity to positively impact our local watersheds in a sustainable way.
Can you volunteer for a few hours at our annual fundraiser? There are several shifts available. Each shift is 3 hours long and consists of either helping us set up, keep an eye on auction items, direct attendees to the party tent or help us break down the event. Volunteers will receive a meal. You will get a chance to participate in the event either before or after your shift.

We are conducting a Recycling Cart Scan Event which will consist of volunteers spot-checking the surface contents of residential recycling and/or trash carts/bins for contaminants and recyclable materials.
There are two ways to participate.
- We need people to volunteer to scan carts.
- Volunteer your recycling carts to see how successfully you are recycling.
