Rain Garden Install & Creek Bank Stabilization Volunteer Events in Spring Hill in Oct & Nov September 24, 2020

New COVID-safe volunteer opportunities are available in August in Spring Hill! July 14, 2020

We have volunteer opportunities available in August that will allow you to volunteer at Rutherford Creek safely during the COVID-19 pandemic. This volunteer opportunity will help you learn skills in environmental restoration, and is open to adults that want to get outside, have fun, and help! 


We will teach you how to stabilize a creek bank and install green infrastructure that controls erosion.

No more than two volunteers will be allowed to sign up per shift. Once you arrive we will have a work station set up for you and we will be instructing and supervising you from a safe distance. The instructor will be wearing a mask and we ask that you wear a mask as well. You will need waders in the creek but we will provide those.

You can choose to volunteer on one or more of these dates. August 13th, 14th, 19th, 20th, 21st, or 22nd.

Announcing new volunteer opportunity at Rutherford Creek in Spring Hill. May 12, 2020

Hi! Tennessee Environmental Council has a no-contact volunteer opportunity available in June that will allow you to volunteer in Spring Hill at Grassy Branch Creek, a tributary to Rutherford Creek, safely during the COVID-19 pandemic. This volunteer event will help you learn skills in environmental restoration, and is open to boy scouts, students, working professionals, or ANYONE that wants to get outside, have fun, and help! 


Through this volunteer activity, you will learn how to stabilize a creek bank. We will train you on how to drive anchors, run wire, and prepare to install green infrastructure that controls erosion. 


There are volunteer time slots open Wednesday, June 10th through Friday, June 12th, and Tuesday, June 16th through Saturday, June 20th.

Volunteer opportunity in Nashville on January 20th, 2020 (MLK Day)! January 02, 2020

Volunteers needed on Monday, January 20th from 9 am to 1 pm to provide support for our Oak Hill Recycling Round-Up event.

The Tennessee Environmental Council is working with the city of Oak Hill to spread recycling awareness through our Recycle Right Oak Hill Program. We will be collecting hard to recycle materials at this event. Volunteers are needed to help with unloading, sorting, and loading recyclable materials collected at this event. 

The event will be outdoors so please dress for the weather. Be sure to bring your reusable water bottle and/or coffee mug. 

Orientation and coffee/breakfast bites will begin at 9 am. To volunteer or for more details email paige@tectn.org.

Volunteer: Creek Cleanup in Murfreesboro Sat, Oct 12th October 04, 2019

On Saturday, October 12th at 9 am, join the Tennessee Environmental Council in cleaning up Garrison Creek in Murfreesboro. We will be removing invasive vegetation and debris in preparation for future tree planting in November. We will also be sharing stories, insights, and lessons about watershed restoration. 


This a community effort open to all ages and no experience is required. All tools will be provided. We will be meeting near the Kroger on Lascasass Highway. Precise directions will be emailed to you prior to the event. Register to volunteer by clicking here

Volunteers Needed for Zero Waste Party on Sept 14th in Nashville August 08, 2019

Hey,


We're having a Recycle Right and Zero-Waste Party on Saturday, Sept 14th in Nashville and we need some volunteer help to pull it off.  Here are some examples of what you might be doing:

  • Recycle Right Table-- 2 volunteers
  • Compost Table-- 1-2 volunteers
  • Turn a T-shirt into a bag-- 1 volunteer
  • Waste Monitor (make sure people are putting recyclables & compost in the proper bins)

The volunteer shift will be from 5-7:30 pm. The event will be located at:

 West Park Community Center, 6105 Morrow Road, Nashville 37209

Tabling help needed this Saturday at Tomato Fest in East Nashville August 06, 2019

Can you help table at Tomato Fest this Saturday, August 10th from 4-6:30 pm? You will need to be very knowledgeable about what can and cannot be recycled in Nashville's curbside recycling program and be able to answer questions about that. You will also need to be somewhat knowledgeable about at-home composting and the Tennessee Environmental Council in general. If you are comfortable with these things and would like to volunteer please email brandi@tectn.org. We can offer you a reusable cotton produce bag, bamboo toothbrush or bumper sticker for helping out. Thank you!

New Volunteer Opportunity in Murfreesboro on Friday, June 7th! May 23, 2019

What: Volunteer with us to restore Lytle Creek! Learn how to use cedar revetments to control erosion, reduce flooding, and reforest Tennessee. This is a hands-on opportunity to positively impact our local watersheds in a sustainable way.

Volunteer this Saturday (5/11) to increase recycling in Lebanon! May 08, 2019

Will you help us improve recycling in Lebanon, TN? We're looking for a handful of volunteers to help us conduct brief surveys about recycling in Lebanon, this Saturday, May 11 from 9 am to 1 pm in the Cumberland/Spring/Pennsylvania neighborhoods (meetup address will be emailed to you by Friday, once you register). 

If you can't make it this Saturday, we'll be doing it again on:

May 18: Farmington Woods from 9 am to 1:30 pm,
June 1: Stonebridge Geris Way 9 am to 1:30 pm.

Can you volunteer the evening of Friday, May 3rd for our annual fundraiser? April 16, 2019

Can you volunteer for a few hours at our annual fundraiser? There are several shifts available. Each shift is 3 hours long and consists of either helping us set up, keep an eye on auction items, direct attendees to the party tent or help us break down the event. Volunteers will receive a meal. You will get a chance to participate in the event either before or after your shift. 


Our fundraiser, Green Tie, will be held at the Nashville Zoo, 3777 Nolensville Pike Nashville, 37211


We request that you dress in business casual or party attire and wear comfortable shoes.

You will be helping carry 20lb bags of trees to vehicles as volunteers come to pick them up for 250K Tree Day.

Hello,

We want to let you know about a new opportunity to volunteer with the Council on Jan 21, 2019, from 11 am to 1:30 pm.  

We are conducting a Recycling Cart Scan Event which will consist of volunteers spot-checking the surface contents of residential recycling and/or trash carts/bins for contaminants and recyclable materials. 

There are two ways to participate.

  1. We need people to volunteer to scan carts. 
  2. Volunteer your recycling carts to see how successfully you are recycling.
