COVID-19 Response Fund Update from the Tustin Community Foundation June 16, 2020

Hello.  I hope this email finds you well.

All of us with the Tustin Community Foundation again thank you for your generous donation during this critical time of need.  The COVID-19 Tustin Response Fund continues to rapidly deploy resources to nonprofit organizations supporting Tustin’s low-income workers, families and vulnerable communities most affected by the coronavirus crisis.  Because of your support, the Tustin Community Foundation established a streamlined grant application process so we could move quickly to help meet needs as the situation evolved through the outbreak and continuing now through the recovery phases of the crisis.

We learned from a recent poll that one in seven adults between the ages of 50 and 80 had trouble getting enough food before the coronavirus pandemic because of food cost, transportation or health issues so 5 weeks ago we kicked off our FRIENDS FEEDING SENIORS program in partnership with Friends Cafe and our volunteers have already distributed many hundreds of meals.  This wonderful program delivers 3 FREE nutritious restaurant quality weekend dinners to Tustin area seniors in need.  The positive response has been overwhelming and it is our hope that this program will continue to grow.  Please contact me if you know a senior who could benefit from this program.

FRIENDS FEEDING SENIORS is funded by donations and through BUY A MEAL - GIVE A MEAL specials on Friday’s at Friend's Café where every adult meal purchased for curbside pick up or delivery will also provide a senior in our program.  When you are hungry on a Friday night, please consider ordering from Friends Café.

We aren't stopping because, unfortunately, needs continue to increase so again, thank you for helping us help others.  Your contribution truly made a difference.

     Most sincerely,

     Erin Nielsen

Tustin COVID Recovery Fund Update May 29, 2020

WOW!  I'm overwhelmed by the outpouring of community spirit during these trying times.  The Tustin Community Foundation remains committed to helping our community navigate the COVID-19 crisis. Since mid-March, we have deployed $25,000 through our COVID-19 Tustin Response Fund to organizations that serve the basic needs of Tustin community.  The most pressing problem has been food insecurity, most acutely affecting vulnerable populations such as children, older adults and those with disabilities. More than 10,000 students in the Tustin Unified School District were classified to receive free and reduced meals pre-COVID.  This number increased dramatically as many Tustin residents lost their jobs.  Your generous donation allowed us to support organizations feeding local families.  I'm also thrilled that in just 3 weeks, the Friends Feeding Seniors program has provided over 320 meals to Tustin Seniors in need.  Thank you.

As we now navigate into Phase II and recovery mode, we are continuing to disperse funds, most recently purchasing face masks and COVID antibody testing kits. As always, we apprecitate your generosity and your trust in us to serve those in need throughout greater Tustin.  #TustinStrong

Stay well,

COVID Response Fund Weekly Update April 21, 2020

From all of us at the Tustin Community Foundation, thank you
for your unwavering commitment to our community. The Tustin COVID-19 Response
Fund is rapidly deploying resources to community-based organizations that are
feeding local families and seniors most affected by the coronavirus
crisis.  I am pleased to report that
there is a Tustin organization distributing food every day of the week
now.  Unfortunately, the need continues
to increase on a daily basis.

Your generous donation has already enabled us to financially
support the following organizations feeding Tustin:

  • Families Together of OC
  • Grace Harbor Church / The Giving Tree / Fresh Start Charity
  • Salvation Army Tustin Ranch Church
  • Sunday Supper
  • Tustin Family & Youth Center

We have also passed on donations earmarked to purchase games
for the children at the OC Rescue Mission and children's books that Kids READ!
will distribute along with the food donations at several of the above

The Tustin Community Foundation is in talks with city,
school and community leaders and local nonprofit organizations on a coordinated
philanthropic effort to support our community during this unprecedented
crisis.  As our donations increase, so
will our ability to meet future COVID related community needs.

Please stay safe and healthy. Thank you for your support as
we adjust to this rapidly-evolving situation and continue to use your donation
wisely, where it will make the biggest impact.

Most sincerely,

Erin Nielsen
