Adi Bemak has been practicing Buddhism for four decades, beginning in 1976 when she was introduced to Buddhism in Myanmar (then Burma). As her practice deepened over many years of retreat at the Insight Meditation Society (IMS), she went on to complete the three-year Community Dharma Leaders Program at the Spirit Rock Meditation Center. Since 2003 Adi has been teaching at InsightPV and serving on the teachers’ council. She is also on the mentor faculty of the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program, an international training designed and overseen by Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach. For nearly 20 years Adi has taught Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), including several years on the faculty of the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Healthcare, and Society at UMass Medical School.
In addition, for nearly a decade she has been teaching MBSR locally through the Valley Mindfulness Center, and is a Co-Buddhist Advisor (along with Peggy Gillespie) at Mt. Holyoke College. Adi maintains a mindfulness-based psychotherapy practice in Amherst, and also relishes her time with family and friends.
