Conference Volunteers


Be a vital part of the NC Down Syndrome Conference by volunteering!


Volunteers are needed to support a variety of roles at the NC Down Syndrome Conference.


Some assistance is required for setup on Friday 4/26/2024. The majority of our volunteer needs are at the conference on Saturday 4/27/2024.

We have opportunities with shifts of varying length. Please see the specific volunteer positions below for more information.


Event Space Setup (Friday 4/26)

4:00-7:00pm


Be an essential part of the conference. Join us the afternoon before the event to unload supplies, set up the registration area, display tables, food and beverage stations, and signage throughout the venue, and arrange tables and chairs as needed. Your dedication to meticulous preparation ensures a seamless start to the conference, creating a welcoming and organized environment for all attendees.

Conference Setup & Support 7:00am- 12:30pm

Versatile volunteers play a key role in ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience for attendees. From managing outside signage and assisting exhibitors with setup to running the registration table, setting up breakfast/snack areas, and directing participants to various conference areas, your contribution will be invaluable. This dynamic role offers a chance to be involved in multiple aspects of the event, making a positive impact on the overall success of the conference.

Conference Breakdown and Logistical Support 12:00- 5:00pm

Versatile volunteers play a key role in ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience for attendees. From managing lunch set up to guiding attendees to different rooms, efficiently breaking down all conference spaces, including rooms, food stations, registration tables, and outside signage, your contribution will be invaluable. This role offers a chance to be involved in multiple aspects of the event, making a positive impact on the overall success of the conference.

Breakout Session Monitors 10:00am-4:30pm

Ensure a seamless experience for the conference breakout sessions. Assist with room setup, maintain cleanliness, manage presentation slides and assist presenter, make brief announcements, keep time for presenters, and track the number of attendees. Volunteers must be aged 18 and older.

Spanish Support

8:00am- 4:30pm


Join us as a volunteer where your role is to create an inclusive and welcoming experience for Spanish-speaking attendees. As a liaison, you will assist with translations as needed, guide attendees, and ensure their needs are met. Your presence will contribute to a more accessible and enjoyable conference for Spanish speakers, fostering a sense of community and connection.

Peer Companion- full day shift 8:00am-4:30pm

Assist teens (16 and older) and adults with Down syndrome in actively participating in the self-advocate track, featuring a full day of hands-on programming. Ideal Peer Companions, aged 16 to 30, should be energetic and patient. No prior experience working with people with disabilities is necessary- just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to make a positive impact in fostering an empowering and supportive environment for our self-advocate participants.


9 Hours Per Shift

Capture the spirit and moments of the NC Down Syndrome Conference. Skilled individuals with their own photography equipment will play a crucial role in visually preserving the conference's highlights. Please note that submission of all captured items to the NCDSA is required, and volunteers must relinquish all rights to the photographs.
