Matching Team - Family Coordinator


Position Overview:

This position focuses on creating and maintaining a bond with the family/parent of the student, scheduling and conducting interviews with them,getting to know the mentee’s interests, and managing family expectations.

Time Commitment:

  • Scheduling and conducting interviews (2.5 hours per week)
  • Family follow-up (2 hours per month)
  • Contribute to team meetings (1.5 hours per month)

Duties of the Position:

(Primary Duties):

  • Schedule interviews and immediately put appointments on TRUE Mentors Office Space Calendar- follow-up with parents to confirm. 
  • Conduct interviews with parents and students, recording key information about student interests, background, and preferences.
  • Follow-up with families on the wait list bi-monthly.
  • Attend matching team meetings for up to 1.5 hours in a month and use knowledge of youth to make a strong match.

(Secondary Duties):

  • Maintain contact with school guidance counselors that refer students to TRUE Mentors.
  • Create and maintain abond with a parent, enabling us to find out what is really going on with a student.
  • Mention student’s positive qualities during interview to help build a relationship with parent.
  • Manage expectations of parents, students, and counselors.

Requirements of the Position:

  • Should be at least 18 years of age and live in Hoboken or the surrounding area.
  • Should be able to commit to 6 months or more to the position.
  • Compassionate and friendly, with a positive view of the student’s future
  • Non-judgmental 
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good listening skills
  • Knowledge of Salesforce and google calendar
  • Able to communicate program and steps clearly, and reiterate expectations

Contributing to long-lasting matches, parent & mentee satisfaction with matches, and performing duties will indicate the volunteer's outstanding abilities and thus he/she may be given more responsibilities and a suitable position depending on organizations needs and desire of volunteer (See Matching Director).
