Irish Pastoral Centre - Boston
Annual Fundraising Banquet
Mary Walsh (O’Malley) depicts the life of an Irish Emigrant coming to Boston at a very tender age of barely 17 with her cousin Mary, landing in Boston after a 13 hour plane journey. Like so many who came before her, Mary created a life here in the U.S. She first found work as a domestic help for a local family. Like all other immigrants of that time she loved to dance and get together with friends at Hibernian Hall where she met her soon to be husband John to whom she married in 1965.
Together they worked hard to raise their children and create a life together in their new home and new country. Mary welcomed each and every one to their home on Taft Street, where the saying rings true; She truly welcomed 'the stranger among us'. The fact that one of their children would grow up to become the Mayor of Boston is a testament to the dedication to their family and their belief in the common ideal that America was and continues to be the land of opportunity.
The tremendous Irish community here in Massachusetts shares similar hopes and dreams to Mary and John; The Irish Pastoral Centre is committed to helping our community to realize those dreams and overcome any obstacles in the way together - as a community.
