50-50-1

Fifty States, Fifty Peaks, One Goal

Create Your Own Team

Want to create a team but don’t know where to start? Here are a few ideas.

  • Corporate Team – Build corporate spirit by engaging your co-workers to participate in the event.
  • Military – Join with other military personnel in your community.
  • School, college or university – Bring your classmates together for a fun, team-building event.
  • Community group – Engage members of your club or organization.
  • Church group – A way to make an impact in your community.
  • Fitness Center – Create a physical fitness challenge with other members of your local fitness center.
  • Cancer survivors and caregivers – A great way to inspire others.
  • First responders – Create a competition between your local police officers and firefighters.
  • Fraternity or sorority – Compete among your peers to see who can raise the most money.
  • Scouts/Girl Scouts – What better way to represent the ideals of scouting while earning a badge or two.

Each team is asked to raise $2000. The more team members raising money, the easier it is to reach that goal, so the more, the merrier!

Ways to Participate

  • Climbing your state highpoint – That’s how the 50-50-1 Challenge got its name: 50 peaks in 50 states for 1 cause. Please check out all of our information about climbing your state’s highpoint on our website at www.fiftyfiftyone.org. You can also check to see if there’s already a team climbing that highpoint that you can partner with!
  • Climbing a regional highpoint – Some states have highpoints that are very difficult, not difficult enough, too far away, or simply pose a barrier that isn’t realistic to overcome. If there is a peak that you’d rather challenge yourself on, we are all for it!
  • Commit to 1 hour of physical activity each day for three days – Although this challenge may look simple, there’s a reason that it is on this list! An added bonus is that physical activity can lower the risk of certain cancers!
  • Challenge yourself in another way – For those of you who can’t participate in one of the ways above, but would still like to be involved in the 50-50-1 Challenge, we are excited to see the creative ways you challenge yourself!

 The 50-50-1 Experience

  • Set up your fundraising page – Our peer-to-peer fundraising program takes the hassle out of meeting your fundraising goals.
  • Pre-event fundraising – Car washes, bake sales, and for adults, blind wine-tastings—just a few ideas to raise money. See our other fundraising ideas to help you meet your fundraising goals. (link to tips)
  • Select your climbing date – Time of year and weather can impact your climb, so select a date that works best for your chosen high point.
  • Engage with social media – Share your decision to “Climb for Cancer” on your social media platforms.
  • Training – Some high points will take little to no physical effort, but for those that do, make training a team-building activity.
  • The Climb – It’s time for the big day! Make it fun, and above-all, safe.
  • Celebrate – Don’t forget to celebrate your accomplishments, both fundraising and “summitting.” Be sure to email your summit photos to [email protected] and share them on your social media platforms.
